Bid4It Winners Enjoy the Perfect Dinner
17 January 2007
When you’re invited to friends for dinner its not often that you turn up and find you’re being cooked for by Rick Stein’s Head Chef and waited on by one of Cornwall’s most successful businessmen.
But that’s exactly what happened to a group of friends after Jane Hill and Robin Foster, who run the Newquay Meadery, bid for the evening in the West Briton’s Bid4It auction.
The prize, which was donated by Worldwide Financial Planning, was dinner for eight, prepared and then cooked in their own home by Stephane Delourme, head chef at the Seafood Restaurant in Padstow and Neil Chamberlain, operations director at Worldwide Financial Planning.
Providing the wine, waiting and washing up was Worldwide’s award winning managing director, Peter McGahan.
“When I saw the prize on Bid4It I knew that it was something that I had to go for,” said Jane.
“It was such an amazing evening. The food was superb, the wine excellent and the service and entertainment was brilliant.
“We all had such a great time and for what I paid I think it was a real bargain.”
On the menu was a starter of scallops with pickled ginger, cucumber and lemon oil followed by pan fried fillets of red mullet with ceps and boulangere potatoes.
The third course was a pavee of brill with potato crust, baby artichoke, shallot comfit and red wine jus and for dessert a hot chocolate fondant with coffee ice cream
Mr McGahan, who runs his business from Truro and Wadebridge said: “I’d heard that the Bid4It site was looking for prizes to help raise funds towards the Winter Festival in Truro.
“I thought what better way to do that, than offer dinner for eight prepared by one of Cornwall’s leading chefs.
“Stephane is a good friend of Neil and mine, and so we knew he would rise to the challenge which he certainly did. Thankfully I had some of the food too.
“I’m happy everyone had a good evening and enjoyed the food. It was hard work, but I’m pleased we were able to help raise money for the winter festival.”
