One of the country’s leading experts on estate planning, trust and inheritance tax is coming to Cornwall to offer advice to investors.
Julie Hutchison, who was appointed as Standard Life’s first ever national development specialist for estate planning, will be leading a seminar organised by Truro and Wadebridge based independent financial advisers, Worldwide Financial Planning.
Focusing on changes in trust law the event follows on from the success of Worldwide’s recent stress management seminar, which was attended by over 30 local business leaders.
“We’re really pleased to have Julie coming down,” said Peter McGahan, managing director of the award winning firm.
“There have been some significant changes made by HM Revenue and Customs to trusts which affect anyone with an estate over £300,000.
“HMRC have made a number of changes that really complicate Inheritance tax planning but Julie is highly knowledgeable on the subject and it's rare to get her down here so we are urging everyone to take advantage of the opportunity.”
The seminar will take place at the Alverton Manor, Truro, on Wednesday 11 April. There will be a morning session for customers from 10am till 12.45pm and an afternoon session where Julie will present for accountants and solicitors from 2pm till 5pm.
“I would urge anyone with an interest in looking after their investments to attend, as the changes affect a lot of people,” said Mr McGahan.
“Julie’s got a fantastic knowledge of the tax system and is a member of the ABI taxation committee and I would like as many people to benefit from this event as possible.”

A Penryn businessman is reaping the benefits of the stress busting techniques he learnt at a recent seminar.
During the afternoon, Barry Wilkinson, director of stationers Office SMART, found out how he could help himself and his employees to combat the problem which costs the UK economy an estimated £5 billion per year.
Held at Alverton Manor in Truro, the event was organised by Truro and Wadebridge based independent financial advisers, Worldwide Financial Planning, who had invited stress management expert and leading psychologist, John Perry, to share his tools and techniques.
“John was a great presenter and explained the subject and how to combat it really well,” said Mr Wilkinson.
“I think a lot of it was common sense and most people in the room seemed to know what they should be doing, but having someone else explain the reasons why things happen and how to deal with the matter seemed to have much more impact.
“I’ve certainly learnt some very useful techniques, which as an employer, will allow me to make our working environment as stress free as possible.
“Simple things like drinking plenty of water, taking regular breaks which helps to increase productivity, and from a personal point of view taking regular exercise.
“But there were also other interesting facts about how people have different views of the world which can affect what they find stressful.”
As well as the presentation from Mr Perry, Worldwide also invited sports massage therapist Leah Wheeler to give tips on how stretching, massage and exercise can help fight stress.
“Leah’s actually my sports therapist,” said Worldwide’s managing director, Peter McGahan.
“She's very knowledgeable and I thought it would be ideal for her to come along and show people more physical ways of relaxation.
“I was really pleased with the afternoon. We had a great turnout and with the feedback we’ve had from people this is something that we are definitely going to organise again.”
