A certified financial planner from Hampshire has beaten off strong competition to claim second place in a national financial planning competition.

Barry Newton, who is senior financial planner at Worldwide Financial Planning in Chandlers Ford, came second in the Inheritance Tax category in the annual Financial Planner Awards.

Organised by Money Management, which is published by the Financial Times, and supported by the Institute of Financial Planning, the competition tests advisers’ knowledge in their selected field.

“There are a number of different categories that financial planners can select that best reflect their own specialist areas,” said Barry who lives in Ropley, near Alresford, with his wife Moira.

“I selected Inheritance Tax Planning.

“I then had to complete a fictional case study, which was predominately focused on Inheritance Tax, but also included elements relating to investments, pensions and protection planning.

“It was a testing case study and I wrote just under 2,500 words to complete it.”

Barry then presented his case study which was judged by a panel of eminent industry professionals.
