An award-winning Cornish independent financial adviser is urging people to get involved with an experiment to spread happiness across the UK.

Worldwide Financial Planning’s managing director, Peter McGahan, wants people to sign up to the exercise at www.scienceofhappiness.co.uk.

Running from today (Monday, August 3) until this Friday (August 7), the psychological experiment takes just a minute each day to complete.

The idea is to focus on happiness which are then passed on to others, sending waves of cheerfulness across recession-hit Britain!

“I think this is such a quick and easy idea to help boost happiness across the country,” said Peter.

“The idea is to spend some time each day to think about the things you are grateful for. This will then make you feel happy and that happiness should then spread to the people around you.

“Interestingly we did this six months ago in Cornwall. I was content with my tea and Kit Kat!

“I’m definitely thankful for living and working in a Cornwall. Despite the recent rain I’m so lucky to live here.”

Once on the Science of Happiness website visitors are invited to complete a short questionnaire and watch a 30 second video.

Each day different groups of people will be given different tasks to complete.

The experiment is being lead by Professor Richard Wiseman from the University of Hertfordshire.

“It’s well know that happiness is catching,” said Prof Wiseman.

“We hope to spread happiness around the UK. No one’s ever tried cheering up a whole country before, and it’s the right time to do it with everyone feeling gloomy from the recession.”

A national poll will be conducted before and after the experiment to assess whether it has worked.
