A BIG-HEARTED family man who has spent his professional career nurturing clients and their families on their financial journeys through life is preparing to do his bit to help combat homelessness.

Peter Meeson, an independent financial adviser, at Worldwide Financial Planning in Truro, Cornwall, is no stranger to sleepouts and says he desperately wants people to be able to get the support they need to have their basic human rights met.

Peter, who is married with three children and lives in Cornwall, will join the firm’s CEO Peter McGahan who will be teaming up with Andy Keast, CEO of the London Irish Foundation and other business leaders at the sleepout at the ‘Lords Cricket Ground’ St John’s Wood in London on November 21, 2022.

Speaking ahead of the event, Peter said: “People are living in devastating, dangerous and isolating situations. It’s not right. The statistics are shocking but people shouldn’t be treated as statistics. They are human beings with needs.

“There are so many people who are less privileged in this world and this is one way in which I can give back. Homelessness is a growing problem and it is not going to get any better unless something is done. The root causes need to be addressed. Here in Cornwall, there are some people who sleep in doorways but then there are others who sleep in tents in the dunes so it’s a hidden problem in some cases yet more obvious in bigger cities.

“I am really hoping that some of the money raised by the annual CEO Sleepout will go towards helping fund outreach workers and shelters. A big thing is having that support to help people get off alcohol and drugs but of course these are not the only root causes. We are currently living through an energy crisis and a cost-of-living crisis and people are struggling to pay bills. If me sleeping out for a night can raise awareness and raise funds to help people who do not have a roof over their head then I am more than happy to be doing my bit. I want to help and if you can help too by making a donation then please do.”

Andy Keast, CEO of the London Irish Foundation, said: “I am so pleased that Peter Meeson is joining us. He has great values. He, like Peter McGahan, is a very caring individual. Both men care about other people and are always doing the right thing by people. I very much hope that together we can raise a lot of money to support our ongoing work at the foundation.

“As a Foundation we are proud and excited to support the CEO sleepout event. As the cost-of-living crisis continues to push people out of their homes and onto the streets, it is important that while we can do something like this, we must do it.”
