A Cornish businessman has been ranked by a leading financial advice publication as being more influential than Bank of England Governor, Mervyn King.

Worldwide Financial Planning’s managing director, Peter McGahan, has been voted 18th in Professional Adviser’s 50 Most Influential list published this month.

He also beat Conservative MP George Osborne, potentially the next Chancellor of the Exchequer, who was ranked 50th.

According to Rob Kingsbury, editor of the 50 Most Influential, the ranking “is a tribute to the people in the industry who have had a significant affect on financial advice in the past year.”

The list was researched and compiled after consultation with industry heads, public relations companies and the media right across the UK.

Peter, who runs the Truro and Wadebridge based independent financial advisers, said: “It was quite amazing when I opened the magazine and found that I was above Mr King.

“As Governor of the Bank of England he has a huge amount of power in terms of determining the finances of the country as a whole.

“It was also interesting to see where George Osborne was ranked because there is a very strong chance that he will be our next Chancellor.

“Both should take note that if you want to have influence you should live in an influential place. Perhaps the Bank of England could take over the Woolworths vacant spot?

“If either of them ever want any advice, they know where we are!”

The accolade comes hot on the heels of Peter being named the UK’s top media IFA.

“Personally it has been a good year for us,” added Peter.

“But the most important aspect is that the message about financial planning is getting out to people.

“And the rest of the Worldwide team and myself are determined to ensure that people are made aware.
