Mortgage Broker

Mortgage broker usage has gathered pace since the last house price boom when consumers realised that a visit to their mortgage broker would save them hours and hundreds of pounds.

Why should I use a Mortgage Broker?
The Guardian sums up the benefit of using a mortgage broker “A mortgage broker is basically a financial adviser with specialist knowledge of the mortgage market. He or she will single out the mortgage most suited to your circumstances, negotiate on your behalf with the lender and, ideally, get you a better deal than you could have done yourself, as some brokers have access to mortgage rates that won't be available directly from the lender. All of which sounds great: moving house is a stressful process, and having one less thing to worry about can be a huge help, particularly if it means you'll be better off in the long run.” (Source: 4)

Mortgage Broker Regulation
You should check the firm giving you advice is regulated by the FSA.  Please check that you receive the correct mortgage advice from the correct firm on the Financial Services Authority website.

Undoubtedly the regulation of the mortgage broker market since 2004 has been welcome and has continued to improve the standards of a mortgage broker as well as their service.

Independent Mortgage Broker
A truly Independent mortgage broker will search every lender in the UK to find you the best solution. There are tens of thousands of mortgage options available and all are very different in subtle ways. Be careful of using a mortgage broker who is not independent.
Another two types of mortgage broker are available. 1)They tie themselves to one mortgage lender or 2) a small number of lenders allowing them extra commission terms.
They are not Independent.
